Hi, I’m Kim — the creator of The Outdoor Girl Blog. I’ve spent most of my life exploring coastal BC through walks on the beach, easy hikes, cozy camping trips, days on the water, and slow, simple outdoor adventures.

I started this blog for one reason: to make the outdoors feel easier and less intimidating for beginners. You don’t need to be an athlete, a seasoned hiker, or “super outdoorsy” to enjoy nature here on the West Coast. You just need clear guidance, practical advice, and a little help knowing where to start.
My goal is to help you enjoy nature without feeling overwhelmed, under-prepared, or unsure of where to begin. I focus on:
I’ve been exploring the outdoors for decades, and along the way, I’ve learned what truly helps beginners feel safe and confident. I’ve spent many years volunteering in youth programs here in BC, helping girls build basic outdoor skills. Those experiences taught me how to break things down clearly, focus on what matters, and make outdoor adventures approachable for every skill level.
You don’t need the perfect gear.
You don’t need to be "outdoorsy.”
And you don’t need to hike mountains every weekend to be an outdoor enthusiast.
You just need a place to start.
Thanks for being here,
the outdoor girl
